MATTUS,
Albert Henry "Albie"

Was born July 23, 1919 at LaCrosse WA on the family farm home to Adam and Anna (Sakowitch) Mattus, after they emigrated from Lithuania in 1911. Albert passed away March 20th 2012 at Whitman Health and Rehabilitation Center, he was 92 . Albert graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1937, earned his bachelor's degree from Eastern Washington College and also got his Master's degree from the University of Washington in education. He enlisted in the army in 1942 and served his country until 1945. He was a clerk typist with the 9th Army Headquarters in France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany, where he processed secret documents. He started his teaching career in 1946 at Garfield Grade School in Spokane, WA. After teaching at many different schools in Spokane he transferred to Ferris High School when it opened and stayed there until his retirement. Teaching English and drama he was one of the original directors of "The Ham On Regal Players". Always interested in drama and music he was very active in the Civic Theater of Spokane. Serving the 1940's and 50's both as an actor and director. He was preceded in death by three sisters Magdelina Stone, Lucy Ping, Ann Peterson, and three brothers Frank, Joe, and Bill along with his parents. Albert is survived by numerous nieces and nephews among them are, Donald Ping, Jeanette Ping, Joann Barry all of LaCrosse and Vic Ping of Walla Walla. Graveside services will be held March 31, 2012 1:30 p.m. at the LaCrosse Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to a charity of donor's choice.
