SHAPTON, Jane Carolyn (Weekes) (Age 52) Jane was born March 2, 1958 in Spokane, thedaughter of John and Joan (Chisholm) Weekes. She passed away from cancer complications in Irvine, CA on April 2, 2010-- Good Friday. Jane grew up in Spokane and attended Hamblen Grade School, Sacajawea Middle School where she was a student body officer and Ferris High school where she served as president of The League of Dresden (Girls' Federation). She was in Camp Fire for 11 years. She was a graduate of Washington State University where she joined Alpha Phi sorority and Mu Phi Epsilon (music honorary), was chosen for Spurs and in her senior year was a member of Mortar Board. Jane was very creative. She loved to sew and knit. She has left us many examples of her art work including paintings and pottery. She played violin in the Junior Symphony and Ferris Orchestra and was a fine pianist. While she was in the hospital in California she played Chopin in the lobby to the delight of staff and visitors. During a trip to Glacier one summer with students from Ferris she developed a deep appreciation for that special place and she chose to work at Many Glaciers Lodge for two summers. Following graduation she spent a year in San Francisco working for the Mitsubishi Corporation, learning about the Japanese culture, and she then spent a year in Tokyo studying photography at Nihon University and teaching English. Glacier and Japan were favorite places. Jane lived in Spokane until her marriage on December 28, 1983 to William (Bill) Shapton. They lived in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Irvine, California.
