From a retirement article in the Spokesman-Review:

Herschel D Lindsey, principal of Ferris High School since 1968, is retiring at the end of the 1977-1978 school year.  Lindsey was principal of Salk Junior High School at the time of his transfer to Ferris.

A 1936 graduate of North Central High School, Lindsey has been a District 81 staff member for 33 years although he began his teaching career at Opportunity in the Spokane Valley.

He is also a 1940 graduate of Eastern Washington University and holds a bachelor and master degrees in education from Whitworth College.

Since 1947 he has been a school principal.  He administered the Colombia, Regal, Garfield and Cooper elementary schools before becoming Salk’s first principal in 1961.

Obituary

Lindsey, Herschel D. (Age 82) Entered into rest October 7, 2000 in Spokane, his lifetime residence.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Priscilla J. Lindsey, at the home; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Richard Pease of Tacoma, WA, grandsons, Kyle Pease and his wife, Teresa, of Spokane, Vance Pease of Tacoma, WA; great-grandson, Kaleb, several nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by a son, Tommy, at the age of 10.  Herschel was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church, member of North Hill Masonic Lodge #210 F&AM.  Scottish Rite Bodies, El Katif Shrine, El Kabl Shrine Band, Royal Order of Jesters Court 65, Spokane Retired Educators Association, Washington State and National Education Association.  Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2000 at 3:00 PM at Messiah Lutheran Church, 4202 N Belt.  Rev. Robert Chenault, officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or Shriners Hospital for Children, PO Box 2472, Spokane, WA 99210-2472.  Riplinger Funeral Home, 4305 N. Division in charge of arrangements.
