Amos Hunter - Class Of 1980 VIEW PROFILE

HUNTER, Amos R., III September 11, 1961 - November 29, 2020 We lost one of the gentlest of souls; a man whose glass was always half full. It was a great blessing to have known Amos "Moose" Hunter. We were surrounded by someone so unafraid, creative, inventive, and original, you quite simply felt like you were a part of an epic novel. Amos embodied his role as a loving father, prankster and punster brother, faithful son, fun uncle, heartfelt coworker, and unconditional friend. His friends and family were profoundly blessed being his brothers and sisters in his resilient Christian faith. He truly cared for his legal clients. Amos' love for his family was immeasurable and he never missed a Valentine's day treat for his three sisters, whether near or far. His happiest moments were spent building "Pond-o-Ray" at the family's Ranch in Chattaroy, at his "Big Rock Ranch" or warm summers with family at Priest Lake, Idaho. Whether it was creating a catapult to launch pumpkins, inventing a car that also could function as a boat, or taking his pride and joy, Alex, and Arabella, on a marathon pursuit of visiting every single Spokane park (87!), in one weekend; he lived each moment of his life to the fullest. He had many hidden talents, one being his ability to Squash any opponent he played in his favorite game. His craving for adventure spanned so far, he gave his nieces a "pedicure cruise" out of his Livingston boat at Priest Lake that ultimately sunk amid shrieks of laughter, set off a cannister of bear spray by mistake at his parents' 60th wedding anniversary party, and taught a crew of kids how to catch and properly eat Larry the Bass. He had a sense of humor that never waned, even in the most challenging circumstances, with a smile so contagious you could not leave the room without wearing one. Amos left an impact; and will be greatly missed. Heaven has gained an angel with a sense of humor. We are grateful for the rich and unpredictable memories he never failed to provide. Amos was born in Spokane to A. Ray and Carolyn Hunter, the second of four children, and the only son. He attended Lincoln Heights Elementary, Libby Jr High, and Ferris High School. During those years he attained an Eagle Scout Badge and enjoyed high school sports, particularly baseball and basketball. It was in those years that he cultivated so many of his lifelong friends, whom he held dear until the end. He attended Washington State University for two years and then went on to Bible College earning a four-year degree. Next, he attended the University of Washington and earned a bachelor's degree. Finally, he attended University of Puget Sound Law School earning a Juris Doctor. He practiced Law in the Seattle area and later in Spokane beginning in 2000. He was a dedicated Christian and taught kids in Awana. He considered his Law practice as a forum to help others. One of his legal passions was constitutional law; he spent many years serving for "We the People", judging competitions for high school students in both Olympia and WA DC. He is survived by his two children, Arabella ("Pink") and Amos Alexander Hunter ("Blue"), his former wife Elizabeth, his parents Amos Ray and Carolyn Hunter, and his sisters Catherine Kuhn (Scott), Susan Stenberg (Steve) and Carol Hunter (Dave). Uncle Moose has many nieces and nephews he loved dearly. A memorial service will be held on December 19th 1pm, at Southside Christian Church. We ask anyone in attendance to practice social distancing guidelines, please wear a face mask, and stay home if feeling ill.
